Vijayawada, also known as Bezwada, is a city located in east-central Andhra Pradesh state, southern India. Situated on the Krishna River in a generally flat plain with occasional hills, it is approximately 80 miles (130 km) southwest of Rajahmundry.
Vijayawada is a prominent transportation hub, with key road and rail connections. It is also a significant center for Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimages. Noteworthy landmarks in the city include the Kanaka Durga temple, Hazarat Bal mosque, and Gandhi Hill, which features a statue of Mahatma Gandhi erected in 1968, overseeing the city.
