About Shenzhen
Shenzhen is one of China's most important technology, tourism, and trading centers that links the nearby semi-autonomous city of Hong Kong with the rest of the Chinese mainland. The city was once just a small town, but grew up almost overnight as China opened up several "special economic zones" in the 1980s. As a result of both domestic and international investment, Shenzhen became a major center of commerce and finance, with many headquarters and large offices of technology and international firms being located here. For those that love electronics, Shenzhen is like a shopping paradise.
If Shenzhen is well-known for one other thing, it is the myriad of theme parks located within its borders. Probably the largest and most famous of these parks is Splendid China, but there is also the Happy Valley and the Window of the World to visit, the latter of which has replicas of famous world landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower. These parks are a great time to spend with family members or children if they are traveling with you.
