Port of Spain, the capital of Trinidad and Tobago, is also the island nation's largest city. Port of Spain has a population of about 50000 according to 2011 data. The city, which is a commercial and administrative center, has been a capital city since 1957. The city is also the financial services center of the Caribbean, and is home to the two largest banks in the region. Located on the north-west coast of the island of Trinidad, the city lies between the Gulf of Paria and the Caroni marsh. The city has a tropical arid and humid rainy climate. The temperature values remain high throughout the year, with the lowest temperature values only dipping to 17 Celsius in January, climbing to as high as 25C in May and September. Among the places of interest in the city include the Emperor Valley Zoo, the National Museum and Art Gallery, Republic Square, Red House, Queens Park Savannah, Movie Towne and the Royal Botanical Gardens.
