About Turkmenbashi Intl. Airport
The second largest airport serving in Turkmenistan is Turkmanbashi International Airport and was opened in 1959 in the city of Turkmenbashi and operated by the Soviet Union. The airport carried passengers and cargo to the cities of the Soviet Union for many years and then after Turkmenistan gained its independence, the airport managed to increase the number and capacity of passengers. In 2010, a new four-storey terminal building and a new control tower were built. From Turkmanbashi International Airport there are regular domestic flights to Ashgabat, Dashoguz, Mari and there are international flights to and from Istanbul.
