About Guangzhou

Guangzhou is the wealthiest city in Southern China. Hosting hundreds of thousands of tourists each year, the city has a unique atmosphere compared to others in China, thanks to its elegant monuments and wide avenues. In this city posh shopping malls and run-down neighboorhoods where you can find the cheapest consumer goods exist side by side. At the same time, Guangzhou also has a number of interesting museums and cultural/historical venues you can visit. Among these is the Guangxiao Temple, which you absolutely must see before leaving China.

You can see some traces of the European colonial influence in Guangzhou, especially by visiting Shamian Island. At Kanton Tower, you can enjoy art exhibitions, a conference center, a cinema and many fine restauraunts. You can also visit Shishi Catholic Cathedral, an interesting example of Gothic architecture in China, as well as numerous art museums and galleries in this culturally unique city.

If you plan on touring the city with a taxi, just remember those same wide avenues can become clogged with traffic during rush hour.
