Corpus Christi, in Texas State of the United States, is located on the coast of the Corpus Christi Bay, which opens into the Gulf of Mexico. The city, which is a small settlement, stands out with its holiday tourism and student population. The city is known in the state as the 'Texas Riviera' or 'The Sparkling City by the Sea'. Corpus Christi means 'the Body of Christ' in Latin. Spanish explorer Alonso Alvarez de Pineda named the city as such in 1519 as he discovered the gulf and its surroundings, which the present city was built upon, on a feast day.

The city is in a crucial position for the United States Defense Industry, as Corpus Christi hosts Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi Army Depot and US Coast Guard Air Station. Summers are long and hot and winters are short and warm in the city, where humid subtropical climate is effective. Corpus Christi International Airport is located 9 kilometers west of the city.
