About Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka, officially known as the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, is an island country located in South Asia, off the coast of India. It was formerly known as 'Ceylon'  and is often referred to as the 'Pearl of the Indian Ocean' due to its rich plant life and vibrant wildlife.
The capital of Sri Lanka is Colombo, which is the largest and most developed city in the country. The official languages of the country are Sinhala and Tamil.
The country experiences monsoon rains for most of the year, and the temperatures are generally high, ranging from an average of 26-32 degrees Celsius throughout the year.
Buddhism is the predominant religion embraced by almost the entire population of Sri Lanka. The country is also home to Muslim, Hindu, and Christian minorities.
The economy of Sri Lanka is primarily based on agricultural products, with tea production and export being one of the most important economic activities. Additionally, the trade of products such as coconuts, rubber, and cinnamon holds a significant place in Sri Lanka's economy. In recent years, the textile and tourism sectors have also been contributing to the country's economy.
For visitors to the country, the exciting streets of the capital, Colombo, and the stunning beaches along the coast are quite attractive. One of the best times to visit Sri Lanka is during the Tamil New Year, celebrated on April 13th. The festival known as 'Esala Perahera,' featuring colorful costumes worn by elephants, which are considered one of the country's symbols, is also an ideal time to visit Sri Lanka. During this festival, which attracts participants from all around the world, you can witness fire dancers' performances and capture unforgettable moments. For travelers interested in Hindu festivals, Thai Pongal and Patti Pongal festivals are excellent choices.
Sri Lanka offers a culinary culture that is just as vibrant as the country itself. Sri Lankan cuisine, generally prepared with rice and curry, clearly reflects the influence of advanced Far East eating habits, much like India and China. Ingredients such as coconut and different spicy sauces are common in Sri Lankan dishes.
