About Dhaka

Dhaka is the vibrant capital city of Bangladesh, known for its bustling urban activities and rich cultural heritage. As of 2023, it is home to approximately 21 million residents, making it one of the most densely populated cities in the world. Dhaka plays a significant role in Bangladesh's economy as a major commercial and industrial hub, with numerous factories and businesses contributing to the region's growth.

Dhaka features a tropical wet and dry climate, with hot, humid summers, a monsoon season from June to October, and mild winters. The best time to visit Dhaka is from November to February when the weather is more temperate and suitable for outdoor activities and exploring the city's various attractions.

The city is served by Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, located about 20 kilometers from the city center. Many airlines, including Biman Bangladesh Airlines and US-Bangla Airlines, offer flights from major international destinations, connecting Dhaka to the rest of the world. For Saudi Arabian citizens, reaching Dhaka typically involves flying directly to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Major airlines like Saudia, Flydubai, Air Arabia, Qatar Airways, and Biman Bangladesh Airlines provide direct or connected international connections from Riyadh, Dammam, and Jeddah to Dhaka.

Dhaka’s culinary scene includes traditional Bangladeshi and Mughlai dishes, reflecting its cultural diversity. Local favorites include biryani, hilsa fish curry, pitha (traditional cakes), and street food such as fuchka (pani puri) and chotpoti. Street food is also popular, with vendors offering a variety of snacks and meals that capture the flavors of the region.

Tourists in Dhaka can explore various attractions that showcase the city's cultural and historical significance. The Lalbagh Fort, an incomplete 17th-century Mughal fort complex, is a notable attraction for history enthusiasts. Other significant sites include Ahsan Manzil (the Pink Palace), the National Parliament House designed by architect Louis Kahn, and the Dhakeshwari Temple, a prominent Hindu temple.

Outdoor enthusiasts and those interested in cultural experiences will appreciate the various festivals celebrated in Dhaka, such as Pohela Boishakh (Bengali New Year) and Durga Puja, which offer a glimpse into the local traditions and vibrant community life. The city's parks and public spaces, such as Ramna Park and Hatirjheel, are popular for relaxation and social gatherings.

Saudi Arabian citizens are eligible for a visa on arrival in Bangladesh. To obtain a Bangladesh visa on arrival, travelers need to have a valid passport, a return ticket, and proof of sufficient funds for their stay. Upon arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, visitors can fill out the visa application form and pay the visa fee. This convenient process eliminates the need for prior visa arrangements, making it easier for Saudi Arabian citizens to travel to Bangladesh.
