The nickname of Dayton, which is located in the northeastern part of Miami River Valley, in the state of Ohio of the United States of America, is the “Gem City”. The city is also known as the place where aviation was born since it is the birthplace of the Wright Brothers. The city is very rich in terms of business opportunities and is the locomotive of the whole state in terms of economic development. Dayton is also a very important place in terms of hosting the central administration units of many important companies operating in different fields such as aviation, scientific researches, technology investments and computerization. The city is visited by an average of 2 million tourists every year and the majority of these visits is for business purpose.
The effects of humid subtropical climate are observed in the city. The summer months are quite hot and humid while the winter months are cold and dry. Buses are important means of public transportation in the city. Trolleybus system is also highly developed and Dayton is the second city having the longest trolleybus network in the United States. Bicycling is also quite common in Dayton and it is a city awarded thanks to its 113 km bicycle paths. The city also has an airport where both domestic and international flights are performed.
Benjamin and Marian Schuster Performing Art Center is the most important place in Dayton where you can hear the heartbeats of art. In this art center, which also has a very impressive architecture, valuable performances such as concerts of the philharmonic orchestra, ballet and opera performances are staged. There are also many art centers in the city where theater plays and famous Broadway shows are staged.
Dayton is also home to a large number of museums, science and art centers. Furthermore, there are many parks and natural areas spread throughout the city. These areas offer an ideal environment especially for those who like nature walks.
Although Dayton doesn’t have a very ethnic food culture, it is quite assertive about steak as this situation is the same in almost every city of the United States. In addition, the city is known for having a large number of local pizza chains.
Although the dominant religious belief in the city is Christianity, tolerance is shown against all religions and people with different religious beliefs live together in Dayton. In addition to the Historic Sacred Heart Church, one of the city's architectural symbols, there is a mosque for Muslims, a synagogue for Jews and a temple for Hindus.
