About Constantine

Located in northeast Algeria, Constantine is the 3rd largest city in the country, after Oran. The city is thought to have been established by Greek colonists and the Numidians in 203 B.C. Its name comes from the old Roman Emperor Constantine. The city’s oil resources have provided Constantine economic empowerment in terms of trade. The city’s northern region experiences a Mediterranean climate, while the southern region experiences a desert climate. The city experiences highs of 28-30 degrees throughout the year with irregular rainfall.

Constantine was built on a long plateau, surrounded by gorges, canyons, bridges, waterfalls, caves, and thermal waters. Among the city’s most important natural areas are Rhumel Gorge, Devil's Bridge, Bridge Sidi-M’Cid, Bridge Sidi-Rached, Perregaux footbridge, El-Kantara Bridge, Falls Bridge, and Djebel El Ouahch. Tourist attractions in the city include the Emir Abd al-Qadir Mosque, the Palace of Ahmed Bey, and the Musee National Cirta. The Emir Abdelkader University and Mentouri Public University have great student campuses. Constantine features influences of Mediterranean cuisine. The city reflects vibrant cultural diversity, offering dishes from international cuisine as well. Reaching Constantine is easy thanks to the Mohamed Boudiaf International Airport, located in the city center.
