Transportation to Airport from Boston City Center
Logan Intl. Airport
The city of Boston, renowned for being home to Harvard University, the University of Massachusetts, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and world famous health care institutions, welcomes thousands of patients, researchers, and students from all over the world. The only international airport in the city is the General Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport, also referred to as Logan International Airport. The airport is located 5.6 km from the city center and is accessible by ferry as a transportation alternative.
Airport Buses
The Silver Line 1 bus service provides transportation to Logan International Airport from the city center. This service departs from the South Station, which is located in the city center, in close proximity to many museums and the Boston Public Garden and Theater District. The SL1 line provides free transportation to the airport. Buses 459 and 449, which pass by the Summer St. stop, close to the Congress Bridge, also provide transportation to the airport. It takes a maximum of 20 minutes to get to the airport using buses 449 and 459.
Rail
Harvard University, the city center, and Cambridge are located along the Red Line, which runs from the north of the city to the south of the city. You can use this line to transfer to a bus to the airport. You can transfer to the SL1 bus at the South Station or transfer to bus 171 at Andrew Station. You can also take the Blue Line, which can be accessed from State Street Station, to the Airport Station. The Airport Station is located in close proximity to the airport. From that station you have to transfer to airport shuttle services to get to the airport terminals.
Ferry
Another transportation alternative to get to the airport is by ferry. The dock is a 10 minute walk from the city center. The ferry takes 18 minutes to get to Logan Wharf. From there the Massport Route 66 provides shuttle services to the airport terminals.
Taxi
Taxis are easy to find anywhere in the city and they are a convenient transportation alternative to get to the airport. Since the airport is located in such close proximity to the city center, about 5 km away, it is also considerably close to other important parts of the city like Harvard University, MIT, and the University of Massachusetts.
Car
The city center can be confusing to navigate but there are two tunnels that run under the Boston Canal, making the airport easily accessible by car. One of these tunnels is closer to the city center and is where the SL1 buses connect to the Red Line. To connect to this tunnel, which is located to the east of canal, take Summer Street, to Congress Bridge. After passing the bridge you can access the tunnel from Congress Street. The other tunnel is accessible by taking Merrimac Street north to New Chardon Street, which is on the right. This road will pass by Haymarket Square and take you directly to the west tunnel. This tunnel connects you to George Visconti Road, which provides direct access to the airport.

When you go out of Monroe Country Airport terminal, which is located 4 miles southwest of the city center, you can find a taxi at any time of day or night, and you can easily travel to the city center from the airport. Alternative means of transportation offered to passengers at the airport include hotel shuttles, rental cars, shuttles of private service companies and limousines. If you need to travel to a different part after landing in the city, you can arrive at the bus station or train station by taxi from the airport and you can continue your travel with a more economical option. If you are planning to travel to different locations in and around Rochester, renting a car is one of the best options offering affordable and comfortable travel experience. Limousines are generally more luxurious and expensive than other alternatives. However, the use of limousines is extremely common in the country. You can travel from the airport to your hotel or a different destination by private shuttles. The most important advantage of the private shuttles is that they provide a more economical and comfortable solution for families, friends groups and more crowded organizations thanks to their large passenger capacities. Moreover, the fares of these shuttles are usually affordable if you will not travel to a place that is too far away from the city.
Hotel Shuttle
The Fairfield Inn by Marriott Rochester Airport, which is within walking distance from the airport terminal, is a hotel alternative that you can reach just in minutes. However, if you prefer staying at a hotel which is closer to the city center, you can benefit from the shuttles of many hotels such as Best Western, Country Inn, Radisson Hotel, Marriott Fairfield Inn and Hyatt Regency. Hotel shuttles generally carry passengers for free or for affordable prices. If you don’t make a reservation in advance, you can get on a taxi waiting in front of the terminal.
Taxi
At the airport, it is possible to find a taxi at any hour of the day and night. The opening fare of the airport taxis are generally 10 dollars and the amount written on the taximeter is added to this fare for each mile. If you need to travel as a crowded group, don’t forget that you should pay an additional amount for each person. The amount you need to pay for travelling to the city center is not very high. It is also worth noting that before getting off the taxi, you should leave a tip for the 10% of the taxi fare just like in other cities of the United States.
Car Rental
For the passengers who want to rent a car at the airport, the options are almost endless. AVIS, National, Hertz, Alamo, Budget and Enterprise are waiting for those who want to continue their travel by renting a car at the airport. In this way, you can reach the city center only in a few minutes. If you need to travel to a different destination from the airport, it is a good idea to take a navigation device with you in order not to get lost and to find your way easier.
Airport Shuttle
Another alternative for passengers who want to travel from the airport to the city center is using one of the airport shuttles provided by Rochester Shuttle Express and Around Town Shuttle Service companies. The shuttles pick passengers up from the airport terminal and carry them to many parts of the city without any need to transfer to any other vehicle. The fares of the shuttles may vary depending on the total number of passengers, but they are not too high. If you prefer benefitting from the airport shuttle service, you can get detailed information from the airport information desk about the points of departure and the average fares, or you can directly contact the drivers of the shuttles that you can find in front of the airport.
Bus and Train
To transfer from the airport to the train or bus, you need to come to Midtown Plaza first, which is located in Rochester city center. You can travel from the airport to the center by renting a car or getting on a taxi and then you can continue by train and bus. You can get to the bus terminal using the Regional Transit Service (RTS) transit buses. If you need to continue your travel by train, it will be the fastest and most practical option to arrive at the train station by getting on a taxi from the airport. Since the distance between the airport and the train station or the bus terminal is not too long, taxis are among the most preferred transportation options for this travel.
