Transportation to Airport from Bangkok City Center

Don Mueang Intl. Airport

Thailand’s capital Bangkok is one of the most important tourist destinations in the Asian continent. The city, which hosted over 25 million tourists last year, has 2 airports. The Suvarnabhumi International Airport opened for international travel in 2006. The city’s first airport, Don Mueang International Airport, is a regional commuter flight hub and low-cost airline hub.

Suvarnabhumi International Airport handles the largest amount of international passengers entering the city, handling over 53 million passengers in 2012. Bangkok is a city with a population of 8 million. Like other South Asian countries, transportation within the city can be chaotic. However, transportation to and from the airport is extremely advanced and comfortable.

Rail

You can take buses 201 and 503 from the Royal Palace, National Museum, and Phara Nakhon, the historic city center, to Phaya Thai Station. From this station you can get to the airport in 17 minutes.

You can also get on the express line at Makkasan Station. Other lines take about 30 minutes to get to the airport.

Airport Services

There are vehicles that depart from Victory Monument, which is one of the busiest transportation hubs in the city, to the airport every 20 minutes. You can get to the airport using luxury minibuses or buses where you need to connect or transfer in between. Minibuses 550 and 551 will take you directly to the airport. The city of Bangkok experiences extremely hot temperatures and these vehicles were designed taking that fact into consideration. These vehicles are all air-conditioned, providing comfortable transportation for tourists.

From the historic city center (Phara Nakhon) take the Nakhon Sawan or Lan Luang bridges and connect to the Sirat Expressway, which has a toll. From here you need to take Motorway 7, which connects directly to the airport. After reaching the airport you can park your vehicle in one of the three parking lots, which have a total car park capacity of 5 thousand vehicles.

Gimpo International Airport

Gimpo International Airport is one of the city’s major airports. There are a variety of transportation alternatives to get to the city center from the airport. The metro offers easy and quick access to the city center. Metro lines 9 and 5 run from Gimpo International Airport. Both lines run to the city, stopping at various stations on the way and passing stations that connect to other major metro lines.

The AREX Airport Express commuter rail line operates from Gimpo International Airport, providing transportation to both the city center and Incheon International Airport. There are a total of 10 stops between the two airports. Passengers can transfer to the metro from the first 6 stops on the AREX line. The rail line operates both express and commuter services.

Rental Car

Renting a car is another convenient transportation alternative. Renting a car is also a great option for getting around in the city during your trip. There are various rental car companies located at the airport. Rental car companies that you can choose from include LOTTE, Pacific, and AJ.

To travel to the city by Call Van, passengers must head to the Airport Call Van Counter at the airport to arrange the service. Call Van services operate from 9 am to 8 pm and have a maximum cargo capacity of 20 kg.
