Transportation to Airport from Bakü City Center
Heydar Aliyev Intl. Airport
Located along the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan’s capital Baku is a rising star in the East gaining notoriety for its oil, gas, and caviar. Baku is a city that attracts the attention people migrating from Asia and other countries in the region, and businessmen from all around the world. The city’s only airport is the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, named after the National Leader and third President of Azerbaijan. The airport serves 5 million passengers annually.
You can get to the airport, which is located 25 km away, from the city center by car or a combination of the metro and airport buses.
Airport Buses
The easiest and cheapest way to get to the airport from the city center is by airport bus. Bus line 116 departs from Vurgun Park, located in central Baku, and takes about 50 minutes to get to the airport.
Metro
The metro system in Baku provides transportation to many central locations in the city like the Old City, 28 May Street, and the Caspian Sea. However, to get to the airport from the city center you have to first take the metro and then get on a bus. From central locations in the city like the Old City, Cafer Cabbari, and Khatai you can take the metro to the 28 May and Koroglu stations. From here you can get on bus line 116, which runs to the airport or take a taxi to the airport.
Personal Car
Since the city is rich in oil, fuel is cheap, making traveling by car a very attractive option. Getting to the city center from the airport is very easy. One of the city’s most important avenues, Heydar Aliyev Avenue will connect you to the Boyuk Shor Highway, which goes to the airport. From the highway take the Airport exit. The airport contains indoor and outdoor parking lots where you can park your personal car for a certain fee.

The international terminal has a large Duty Free shop as well as souvenir shops where you can buy items unique to Russian and Azeri culture. The airport features free wireless internet connection.

Ganja is an ancient city in Azerbaijan located in the Caucasus region that has existed since ancient times and at the same time the second largest city in Azerbaijan. Ganja International Airport welcomes guests who want to visit this city, which has many historical buildings, including the tomb of Nizami, the famous Central Asian poet.
Although Ganja is among the most crowded cities of Azerbaijan, the surface area is much smaller and the population ratio is quite low compared to many cities. The city center is the area around the square hosting the statue of Leader Heydar Aliyev. This statue is surrounded by state buildings as well as a large park.
There are not many public transport vehicles that serve in the city. The most economical way to go around the city is to take a bus station from the central bus station close to the city center or to travel with minibuses that provide transportation services to many parts of the city. Unfortunately, trolleybuses and trams, which have a long history in urban transportation, do not operate today. You may only come across trolleybuses that serve some parts of the city, especially at times when traffic is intense, at some time.

It is possible to travel to the neighboring cities or Georgia by trains from the central train station after your flight lands. The public transport system in Ganja is not very efficient. Nevertheless, as in all other Azerbaijani cities, in Ganja, transportation to airports, railways and tourist areas is often served by public transport. To go to Ganja International Airport, you can take a bus from the city center, take a taxi or rent a car.
Bus
It is possible to get to the city center with the many buses departing from the airport. These buses have very frequent intervals. When you arrive at the airport, you will arrive at the bus terminal as soon as you pass through the parking area. The bus fares are very reasonable.
You can reach the city center in about half an hour by these buses. Once you arrive at the city center, you can continue your journey with the buses, depending on where you are going. Buses along with minibuses are one of the main options in urban transportation. By bus, you can easily travel to any area of the city.
In addition to these, you can also go to Baku and Goranboy cities by buses. These buses depart every half an hour, or every hour, from early morning to evening.
Minibus
Minibuses provide transportation from the airport to the city. However, after arriving at the city center by bus, you can travel to many parts of the city via minibuses. Minibuses are very affordable.
Train
The train is not an option used either from the airport to the city center or within the city. From Ganja, train services are mostly organized to Baku and Astra cities. You can also evaluate the express train alternative to travel to Baku.
