Harrisburg, the capital of the US state of Pennsylvania, is also the administrative center of the region. According to 2011 data, Harrisburg, which has a population of about 50,000 people, is the ninth largest city of Pennsylvania. Founded 3000,000 years ago by the Native Americans alongside the Susquehanna River, the site was visited by British explorer John Smith, where he and his son built the city of Harrisburg.
